Frequently Asked Questions
Do I weigh in with my Gi on?
No. Weigh ins will be without the Gi on. Anyone competing in multiple divisions will only have to weigh in once.
What are the weight classes?
Answer: The way divisions are made at the Submission Ace Championship is by “Closest Weight”. That is to say, once the online registration is closed, all the competitors within a specific category (ie: Adult White Belt, Master’s, Teens 13-17 etc) are broken into 5 person divisions starting with the first 5 lightest. Then the next 5 lightest after that will be the 2nd division within that category and so on. In this way, the weights within your bracket should be very close, sometimes within 1 or 2 pounds between all 5 competitors.
What if there are less than 5 people in my category?
Answer: Frequently, in those categories outside of the Adult divisions, there happen to be less than five compatible competitors to make a reasonable bracket. These anomalies will be discovered once the preliminary brackets are sent out. We will do our best to accommodate the competitors who find themselves in these situations. Email correspondence will be made between all those in question until a suitable solution is agreed upon. This may involve jumping up in skill/weight/age, joining the Adult pool in the case of women’s or Master’s, or if there is only one other person that makes sense to match against; doing a best of three bracket between the two to maximize match numbers. In the very rare case that there is simply no good option for a competitor, they will have until the Thursday before the event by 8pm to ask for a refund. After that point, no further adjustments will be made. Final brackets will be released on the Friday before the event.
Can I enter multiple divisions?
Answer: Adult competitors may only enter 1 division whether it’s their adult belt level, Masters or Women’s division.
For the Fall Classic, since there are no Absolute Belts to be won outside of Adult divisions, Kid’s and Teens will have the opportunity to enter both a Gi and a Nogi Division.
NOTE: There will be an additional cost to enter a second division for Kids/Teens.
Are competitors required to wear shirts under the GI during competition?
What is the age requirements to be considered a master?
For the Submission Ace Championship tournaments, Masters are considered 40 years and older.

Just a question regarding fees and round robin opponents in trying to decide to go in the women’s category or the adult category: I read that in the women’s division that the organizers will try for a minimum of 3 in a bracket, but the fee is still $100- If there aren’t enough women to round out to 5 per bracket is there a discount? I’m just looking at it in terms of $/matches: if I’m only guaranteed 2 matches (in a round robin of 3) then that’s $50/match, whereas in a round robin of 5 it reduces to $25/match- this seems unfair. Will a discount be applied if there is only a bracket of 3 or 4 compared to a full bracket of 5?
Also, does the winner of the women’s categories go to the absolute pool as well?
Thanks!
Hello Claudia,
The entry fee doesn’t change based on number of matches, no.
We try our best to make the most optimum divisions based upon who enters. Ultimately, we have no control over the amount of people who show up.
If you were to compete in any other event and get 1 match, by the same reductionist math, you could pay over $100 For 1 match. We will guarantee you 2. But, the fee is for entry into the event, not for a guaranteed amount of competitors.
As for the Absolute divisions, the Women’s divisions will have two of their own Absolute belts! 1 for white belt gold medalists to compete for, and 1 for blue belt and up gold medalists to compete for!
Hope that helps.
